    Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of fish farmer’s attitudes towards the culture of the fish mullet, define the relationship between the degree of attitudes of fish farmers towards the culture of the fish mullet and the independent variables studied and identify the most important problems faced by fish farmers when culture the fish mullet.

This study was conducted at Sharkia governorate on random sample of 200 fish farms was selected from the governorate. Data were collected through a questionnaire by interviewing respondents from March to May 2017. Arithmetic mean, Standard deviation, Simple correlation Coefficient, and Step Wise were used to analyze data statistically.

The main results of the study showed that: 52.5% of respondents were in a medium level from attitudes towards culture of mullet fish, between 20 and less than 40 degrees. The number of high-level fish farmer’s attitudes towards the culture of the fish mullet 62 farmers about 31%, while the low level of the attitudes towards the culture of the fish mullet was 33 farmers about 16.5% of the total number of respondents.

The results showed a positive correlation at 0.01 between the level attitudes of fish farmers towards the culture of the fish mullet and the independent variables: fish farm area, fry fish mullet price, feeding costs for fish mullet, quantity of production from mullet fish per ton at feddan.

The results showed that the quantity of fish production and the prices of fry and fingerlings, size of fish farm cost of fish mullet feeding contributed at the interpretation of the variation in the degree of attitudes of the fish farmers towards the culture of the fish mullet, which the value of their contribution for each of them in explaining the total variance of the dependent variable was 43.9, 14.3, 2.10, 7.90 respectively%.

The most important problems faced by fish farmers in the culture of the fish mullet were: the difficulty of obtaining sufficient quantities of fingerlings and fry for culture large areas in suitable time 98.5%, increase prices of feed allocated for the fish mullet 97%, and the high prices of fry and fingerlings for fish mullet 95%.

The results also showed rising in the net return of the and the rate of return on the invested capital for the activities of the mullet fish culture, as well as the risk and price productivity.
